The Great Debate ~ Beer vs Wine

There are so many things to love about fall. With the leaves on the trees turning from green to crimson and the air crisp and cool, I feel like I can breathe again. I can almost smell the ripe fruit in the nearby apple orchards; so heavy the branches bend like crossbows. Autumn is the season of harvest fairs, wine festivals and Oktoberfest celebrations around the world, and it’s the perfect time of year to take an entertaining and informative look at the age-old debate: beer vs. wine.

So, which is better – beer or wine? Tell us what you think.

In case you’re curious where I stand, I enjoy a good food and wine pairing but what I really love is an ice-cold beer on a hot summer day.  Which beer vs. wine fact surprised me the most? That Canada doesn’t even crack the top 10 list of beer drinking countries!

Hi Laura! I am a wine girl myself, but I do love the beer culture too. I once wrote a post in my head about the cultural differences between the 2. I do love that the beer community is so open and friendly while the wine culture does have a stereotype of being a little more snobby. But I think the 2 are starting to meet more in the middle– beer is finding an upscale niche, and wines are being canned. Beer has more carbs which really is a problem (there goes the weight loss coach in me.) My hubs and I brew beer, but that is really for him. I like a beer now and then, but I’ll stick with the wine… or tequila. ;)

Tequila! Now that’s a whole different worm :-)

Great point about beer and wine meeting moving closer to the middle. I went out for dinner/drinks recently at a place that served wine and beer by the flight. It was pretty cool being able to taste five different craft beers while my dinner date sampled five different wines.

      Thanks for stopping by!

Laura, so good to hear from you again. I have just started to taste some beer now and then. Not being a drinker doesn’t help, but there is really much more to beer than meets the eye. What surprised me the most? that the USA is at the bottom in terms of consumption of both beer and wine. With such a huge population i would have expected the numbers to be different. Keep it up Laura, I love your blog, your sense of aesthetics on the blog and the fun information.

      Hi Dina :-)

I was surprised about the US stats too. I also find it quite interesting how polarizing a debate it can be. It seems like people either love beer OR wine, but not both. I wonder why that is.

Thanks very much for the encouragement and support. You’re awesome!

      Cin Cin,
      Laura
